Male breasts are an increasingly common concern among men of all ages. This is medically known as Gynaecomastia and are more fondly described as man boobs or ‘moobs’
The male breast tissue can build up in the chest causing the area to become enlarged, and this may also present as a swelling around the nipple, or full coverage swelling of the entire breast area. When the tissues in the breast of the male have engorged, this may cause some sensitivity and can occur in either one or both of the breasts.
They are frequently caused by unbalanced hormone levels and for this reason more commonplace in adolescent boys. Man boobs can also occur in older or middle-aged men, as the aging process may cause the levels of testosterone in the body to decrease to such a degree that they fall below that of the estrogen levels and this may result in the growth of breast tissue.
Men who are prone to weight gain can also find that fatty deposits may accumulate in the chest area and cause the breast to sag or droop as it enlarges.
The male breasts may reduce or be eradicated through weight loss when this is the determining factor, but this is not always the case and may also leave behind stretch marks or excess loose skin if the weight loss was extreme or rapid.
There are also some other reasons that male breasts may develop. These could be due to side effects from medications or recreational drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, testicular infection, or genetic disorders.
Whatever the cause of male breasts, our expert team of specialists at Paradise Aesthetic Clinic will be able to determine the reason for the development and recommend an appropriate treatment to help reduce the size of the breast and contour a more masculine chest.
