LED therapy is a skin care treatment that uses the application of specific wavelengths of light, including red and blue.
The procedure aims to improve cellular health by accelerating the repair and replenishment of damaged tissue cells. LED (Light Emitting Diodes) does not use ultraviolet rays, making it very safe for frequent use. It can help to improve many common skin conditions, including: acne and acne scarring, lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, dull / dehydrated skin, volume loss, open pores, oily / combination skin, stretch marks, eczema, psoriasis, scars and wounds.
As we progress through life, our skin can change in texture and tone. Whether it’s due to environmental conditions, lifestyle choices or ageing, this can alter the features and the overall appearance of the skin. Our once bright and radiance complexion can become dull and tired looking.
LED therapy is a scientifically proven, non-thermal, non-invasive, low-level light therapy. It is renowned for its ability to encourage collagen production and regenerate skin cell tissues, effective for smoothing the skin and improving overall texture and tone.
Blue and Red LED is approved by the FDA to treat a range of common skin conditions.
Blue light therapy focuses on the sebaceous glands and decreases their activity. Acne breakouts can be prevented as the bacteria that causes acne is destroyed. It can be administered at the clinic, in a large canopy with LED lights, or at home with a mask.
The Red, or infrared, light addresses the outer layer of the skin (epidermis). It helps to stimulate the collagen proteins for skin that is fuller and smoother. The Red light can also help to reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation, for a radiant glow.

UV rays are not used in this treatment, deeming it very safe. Compared to other treatments, it should not cause any burning to the skin and may be used on many skin types and tones. If you are taking Accutane, for the treatment of Acne, you may not be recommended for this procedure.
Up to 10 sessions may be required to achieve the desired results, but this may depend on your individual concerns and skin type. When attending a pre-treatment consultation at Paradise Aesthetic Clinic, one of the team of healthcare professionals will devise a course treatments that are appropriate for you. Once your desired outcome has been reached, you may also require regular maintenance procedures, which will also be discussed with you.
This treatment may not be recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are affected by diseases, such as diabetes, that can involve the retina and require the use of photosensitising medications. If you have a history of seizures, epilepsy, skin cancer and lupus, you may also not be suitable.
No downtime is to be expected from this procedure. You may see little evidence of results after the first session, and the outcome will continue to develop as the treatment course progresses. Maintenance sessions are recommended as skin cell turnover will continue to occur, and therefore collagen can still diminish.
In some cases the patient may experience some redness and sensitivity at the treatment site. More uncommonly, a person can develop a rash, increased inflammation, pain and hives. If any of these complications develop, speak to your healthcare professional.
