PRP or Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is a regenerative treatment that promotes healing when injected. Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “factors,” or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. Researchers have produced PRP by isolating plasma from the blood and concentrating it. Injecting PRP into damaged tissues will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing. Because the tissue growth factors are more concentrated in the prepared growth injections, the body’s tissues will heal faster.
The procedure works to promote healing by helping to repair damaged tissues and supporting the regrowth of new cells. The treatment uses the body’s own plasma, and when prepared, contains a more concentrated form of growth tissues. This is thought to encourage a faster rate of healing.
PRP can be used in a variety of treatments and has a wide range of uses. But whatever the intention, the techniques remain the same. A sample of the clients’ own blood is taken (usually from the arm) via a cannula. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge, where it is spun at high speed to separate the plasma from the other fluids. This process prepares the blood which is then ready to be inserted into the affected area through the use of injections.
Many aesthetic clinics perform the ‘Vampire facial’. This treatment uses PRP methods as a rejuvenating treatment for the skin on the face.
DNA repair and collagen production are stimulated for a complexion that is fuller, brighter, and more youthful. As the concentrated plasma contains growth factors, tissue repair can be encouraged in other areas of the body. PRP, or plasma therapy, has been successfully used on sports injuries and areas of the body where the joints and tendons are worn or strained. The pain that conditions such as tennis elbow and achilles tendonitis cause, can be relieved and discomfort can be reduced. This same idea can be attributed to supporting the healing process, post-surgery. The healing process can be more effective and recovery time can be reduced.
Research continues into the development of PRP with helping to restore hair growth, as stimulating the follicles is thought to encourage the regrowth of new hair. Your therapist can take an in-depth look at your condition and advise if PRP will suit your needs.
Dependent on condition
This versatile treatment can be used on various areas of the face and body. The area to be treated is determined by the individual’s condition and what is in need of rejuvenation and repair. Successful outcomes have been seen all over the body from the face to the knees.
PRP should be performed by an appropriately trained and qualified therapist to ensure the procedure is carried out safely and effectively. The team at Paradise Aesthetic Clinic are fully insured and experienced experts who consider the safety and well-being of all their client’s, following strict protocols set out by the clinic.
There is no risk of an allergic reaction from this autologous treatment – as it uses the body’s own substances. However there may be some effects from the injection process, including: redness, swelling and minor bruising. These effects usually settle within a few days. In rarer cases a client will experience infection, pain and tissue damage. You will need to contact the clinic if you have any concerns regarding your recovery.
The healing and repair that this treatment promotes may not be noticed immediately. The internal processes that are stimulated will need to have some time allowed for their progression. Several weeks or months may be required for the complexion to become improved, pain to be alleviated and new hair to start growing through.
Clients typically require a course up to 3 treatments, performed every 2 weeks for this procedure to be successful. Your healthcare professional may recommend that you attend maintenance sessions every 4 – 6 months to ensure the procedure continues to work effectively.
